Touques

Our first view of Touques was a large retail park but as you reach the town centre. You find a charming old town with old buildings and narrow streets. We parked in the car park near the town hall and had a walk round the main street. The streets were quiet it was dinner time everything shuts down for 2 hours in France.

The history of Touques dates back to the 5th century when it was an important port trading in salt, wine, and other goods. During the Middle Ages, the town was a prosperous center for shipping and commerce and a member of the prestigious Hanseatic League. In 1204, King Philip II of France granted Touques a charter that gave it the right to have its own mayor and court.

Today, Touques is a charming town with plenty of sights and attractions for tourists to explore. The old port area is a great place to start a visit to the town. Here, visitors can admire the old stone warehouses, the beautiful half-timbered houses, and the 14th century Church of Saint-Nicolas.

Other attractions in Touques include the ruins of Touques Castle, which was built in the 13th century, and the 15th century Church of Saint-Sauveur. The town also has several museums, including the Museum of Maritime History, which displays artifacts from the town's nautical past.

Nearby, tourists can also visit the medieval town of Honfleur, the beautiful seaside resort of Deauville, and the port of Le Havre. All of these destinations make great day trips from Touques and offer plenty to see and do.
