St Sever Calvados

The main road runs through St Sever Calvados

We had been to see the village of Sainte Cecile and were on our way to the town of Vire. When we came to St Sever Calvados we drove straight through but decided it was worth stopping on the way back. I am glad we did there is a main street with a mixture of local shops. Just off the main street is an old church and a large car park. Which is ideal if you want to walk round the village

The village Church

The village's history dates back to the 11th century when it was founded by the Normans and was known as Saint Sever des Bois. It was the birthplace of the famous Norman poet, Robert le Diable, who wrote about the beauty of the village and its surrounding countryside in his works. In the 19th century, the village was the site of a major battle between the English and the French during the Hundred Years War.

Today, St Sever Calvados is a popular tourist destination for those looking to explore the rich history and culture of Normandy. There are a number of attractions in the village and nearby that visitors can enjoy, such as the 12th century church of Saint-Sever, the Château de Saint-Sever, the Castle of Touques, and the Museum of the Great War.
