The railway gun in the photo can be seen outside the Atlantic wall museum in the village Audinghen .
During World War II, railway guns played a crucial role in military operations. These massive guns were mounted on rail cars and could be moved quickly and easily to different locations along the railway network. This made them an essential part of the German war machine, allowing them to quickly deploy firepower to wherever it was needed most.
The railway gun was a fearsome weapon, capable of firing shells weighing over a tonne at targets up to 40km away. They were used primarily for long-range bombardment, targeting strategic military installations and infrastructure such as ports, railways, and bridges.
The Railway Gun this photo was taken on our first visit about 6 years ago.The gun was looking past it best but you can see in the new photo we took a couple of weeks ago.It has been restored on our first trip it looked like it was rusting away. Both the gun and the Bunker have had a lot of money spent on them.
You can see the difference

The gun is well-maintained and open to the public for viewing. Visitors can walk around the gun and even climb up onto the carriage to get a better view of the massive weapon.
The restoration of the Audinghen railway gun is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the team who worked tirelessly to bring this forgotten relic back to life. It is an important piece of history that will be preserved for generations to come.
