Oye Plage a small seaside town in Northern France

Our visit to Oye Plage on the D940 we visited the town on our way back from visiting nearby Gravelines. The village has a long flat beach and is popular with carvanners and campers.

Oye Plage is about 10 miles from Calais going towards Dunkerque. From Calais by car take the A16 motorway towards Dunkirk and exit at junction 49, following the signs for Oye Plage.

Oye Plage offers a variety of attractions and activities for visitors, such as a long sandy beach, a nature reserve, a historic fort, and several restaurants and shops. You can enjoy a peaceful walk along the shore, observe the wildlife in the wetlands, explore the history of the region, or sample some local cuisine. The long sandy beach stretches to the Platier nature reserve.

If you like plants and animals in there natural state this is the place to visit. Bring your binoculars for spotting migrating birds and viewing this unspoilt area.

The best vantage point is the observatory where you can see over the wetlands and its wealth of flora and fauna.

In the distance you can just see the outline of Dunkerque This is the area where the British army were evacuated in WWll.

The troops were hidden in the sand dunes before wading in to the sea to the small boats.
