During World War II, Luc-sur-Mer played an important role in the Normandy landings. The town was heavily bombed by the Allies in preparation for the D-Day invasion. The beach at Luc-sur-Mer was one of the first landing points for British troops on D-Day. Today, visitors can still see the remains of the German bunkers that were used to defend the town during the war.
