LonguevalLongueval is the next place on our tour of
the Battlefields of the Somme. This small village is in the
middle of the countryside. There are just a few houses and a shop plus
a cross road. Today it is hard to see any military reason for the fighting there.
Our visit to Longueval was also to find the grave of
EDWARD JOSEPH DICKENS aged 21 who was killed in the fighting there.
We were asked by a visitor to our site from Australia if we could
get a photo of his headstone. There are several military graveyards
in the area. The one we were looking for was at the side of the road
coming into the village Longueval Road Cemetery
