Gatteville Phare village and lighthouse in Normandy
Gatteville Phare is a nice little village between Cherbourg and Barfleur just off the D116 road.Most people visit the area to see the lighthouse which is one of the largest of it type in the World.
The Phare or lighthouse is just about 1 mile outside the village down a narrow road.You can park on the edge of the beach near the Phare. We had a walk round the inside of the lighthouse. If you have the energy you can go to the top 300 plus steps worth it for the view.We had a picnic on the rocks and picked up a few sea shells on the beach.
The village has a couple of shops and 2 nice churches.One of them is very old as you can see from the photos.We were the only ones walking round the church so it was very peaceful inside.
Places to visit there are several villages nearby Gouberville and Cosqueville and Neville sur Mer The fishing port of Barfleur is a must visit while you are only a few mile away.

The Phare de Gatteville is 247 feet tall I was told it as 365 steps to the top.We did not count them but we were a bit out of breath when we reached the top.The area round the lighthouse is very rocky you would not want to get to close in a ship.
Plaaces to visit in the village and nearby
1. Tour of the Lighthouse at Gatteville Phare: Climb up the stairs and explore the tower of this iconic lighthouse, built in 1835.
