Places to see in Cayeux sur Mer
Cayeux sur Mer was the next place we visited on our Trip round the Somme estuary. We visited the town in the first week of June so the resort was very quite. The summer season starts at the end of June and the resort gets busy. It is also busy at the weekends.
The resort has a great beach which stretches as far as you can see. A feature of the beach is the wood boardwalk which is the largest in Europe. On the board walk there are several hundred new beach huts. You can see them in the photos
The town is on the route of the narrow gauge train that takes you round the Somme estuary if you do not want to drive here.

The town has a good selection of shops cafes and bars
It also has a casino open daily from 11:00am to 3:00am during the summer
The casino has a nice looking restaurant facing the sea.

Things to do in the area
1. Cayeux-sur-Mer Beach: Enjoy a stroll along the golden sandy beach and take in the stunning views of the English Channel.
2. Cayeux-sur-Mer Golf Course: Take a swing on the 18-hole golf course located just a few minutes from the beach.
3. Château de Cayeux-sur-Mer: Visit this 13th century castle and explore its ruins.
4. Le Havre de Cayeux-sur-Mer: Take a boat ride and explore the stunning views of the harbor from the sea.
5. Le Musée de la Mer: Learn about the history of the sea and its inhabitants at this museum in Cayeux-sur-Mer.
6. Jardin des Plantes: Visit this botanical garden and admire the exotic plants and trees.
7. Église Notre-Dame de Cayeux-sur-Mer: Visit this 18th century church and admire its beautiful architecture.
8. The Memorial of the Battle of the Somme: Pay your respects to the fallen at this memorial dedicated to the fallen soldiers of the Battle of the Somme.
9. La Citadelle: Explore the brick-walled fortress and admire its defensive structures.
10. Maison de l'Estuaire: Learn about the history and culture of the area at this museum.

Saint Valery sur Somme is a small port on the Somme estuary just a short drive from Cayeux sur Mer.
We spent a few hours there walking round the marina and shops.
