We had spent the morning visiting the village of Locronan which is 18 miles away. The harbour today is full of yachts and small fishing boats. In the 16th century large sailing ships visited this important port. They shipped Bordeaux wine to Northern Europe now it is a pleasant tourist town.Just on the edge of the town there is a nice beach overlooking the estuary.
There is a large car park next to the beach where we had a picnic lunch. The port has a good choice of restaurants if you prefer to eat inside. A local Map of the area

The Musée Maritime is a must-visit attraction for anyone interested in Breton culture and history. Situated just a short walk from the Port of Audierne, this maritime museum is dedicated to the history of the sea and its importance to the people of Brittany. The museum's collection includes a variety of exhibits that showcase the region's maritime heritage, including traditional boats, fishing gear, and artifacts from shipwrecks and salvage operations. Visitors can also learn about the lives of Breton fishermen and sailors, and gain a deeper understanding of the region's unique cultural identity.
One of the most popular exhibits at the Musée Maritime is the recreated fisherman's house, which provides a glimpse into the daily life of a Breton fishing family in the early 20th century. There is also a section dedicated to the history of Audierne's port, which played a vital role in the region's economy for centuries.
Overall, the Musée Maritime is a fascinating and educational experience that offers a unique perspective on the history and culture of Brittany. Whether you are a history buff, a maritime enthusiast, or simply looking to learn more about this beautiful region of France, a visit to this museum is highly recommended
